CLASS DESCRIPTIONS

Intro to Yoga

6 weeks

This course will introduce you to the basic principles of yoga poses, philosophy, relaxation and breathing techniques. Whether you are new to yoga or to The Yoga Center we recommend you take this class, as it prepares you to practice in the open classes with confidence and safety.

Open Classes

Happily ever after

An open class means that it is suitable for all levels of students, except those brand new to yoga. They will focus on asanas (yoga poses), pranayama (breathing exercises), relaxation, meditation and philosophy. Modifications will be offered for those who are not ready for the full postures.

Gentle Yoga

This class is for students who prefer a less vigorous class and those who are experiencing illness, injury or chronic pain. It is also a youthing class. It promotes bone strength, balance and improved memory and concentration, all issues that become increasingly important as we age. You’ll be amazed at the power of a gentle yoga practice to prevent premature aging and to keep you doing the things you love to do!

Yoga for Strength and Flexibility

In this class we’ll use both pranayama and asana to deepen our practice. You will build strength, flexibility and endurance. Challenge your mind and body. Take your practice to the next level. Be prepared to sweat!

Stress Reduction/Yoga Nidra

NEW!

In this class, we will be combining gentle stretches, supported postures and breathing to create deep relaxation, followed by a guided yoga nidra meditation. This is the ultimate stress reduction practice, suitable for anyone. It is especially recommended for anyone experiencing symptoms of stress (e.g. insomnia, chronic pain, memory impairment, posttraumatic stress disorder, anxiety or hypertension) or for those who simply wish to enjoy life more. Start your weekend early!

Meditation and The Mind

As you think, so you become. This year-long course in meditation provides an education in understanding how the mind works. With such knowledge we are able to gain mastery over negative habits and develop a positive attitude toward life. Based on the 8 limbs of classical yoga, the curriculum includes MEDITATION SKILLS, CONCENTRATION, YOGA NIDRA, POSITIVE THINKING, ETHICAL BEHAVIOR, AND MEDITATION. Each class will have time for education, sharing and meditation practice. After taking all 6 classes, students will be awarded a Certificate of Completion.
